New Year’s Resolutions on Health and Fitness

The New Year just seems to be the perfect time to set new goals. No matter how many New Year’s resolutions you have broken in the past, it is still healthy to aim afresh for a better health, a fitter body and a more improved life. Here are some health and fitness goals that you would want to embrace for the coming year.
Nutrition
- I will serve foods from several food groups at each meal.
- I will go for the most natural, least-processed foods such as whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.
- I will try to include fresh fruits or fresh vegetables in every meal.
- I will gradually reduce drinking soda and instead opt for fresh fruit juices.
- I will learn a new vegetable salad recipe a month, introducing new spices and condiments.
- I will convince my family to eat fast food one less time in a month.
- I will subscribe to a blog on healthy nutrition to educate myself on healthy living.
- I will learn to ascertain my calorie needs and eat within those limits.
- I will sneak more fiber into my casserole dishes, burgers and pasta.
- I will switch from regular milk to low-fat milk and dairy products.
- I will read labels, read up on the bad or good ingredients and do some research on healthy living.
- I will cut back my consumption of fats, salt and sugar while increasing my intake of whole grains, fish, fiber and fresh produce.
Fitness
- I will buy myself a variety of cheap exercise equipment such as jumping rope, hula hoop, gym ball, exercise videos and weights so that I can vary my exercise activities at home.
- I will try to engage in home-based physical activities such as housecleaning and gardening to increase my exercise times.
- I will try to spend at least three times each week doing outdoor exercises such as walking, jogging, bicycling or doing execises at the gym.
- I will try to limit TV-watching to an hour a day and punctuate my TV times with short exercise routines such as skipping rope or jogging in place.
- I will sign up for a fun run or 5k marathon at least once in a year.
General Health
- I will try to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
- I will try to reduce or avoid stress in my life and instead train myself to be calm and collected, positive and forgiving.
- I will improve my household management abilities, seeking to declutter my home and mind.
- I will make my life more meaningful by enhancing my relationship with family and friends.
- I will set reasonable goals for my career and finances, striving to strike a healthy balance between family and career goals.
- I will find time to nurture my spiritual side, making my inner man healthy enough to deal with the outside world.
