Healthy Foods For Healthy Hair

It is not just what we put on our tresses that affect hair health. The food we take in may even have more important bearing on how our hair looks, behaves and grows. Load up on the following super-foods which guarantee health and beauty for your hair.

Salmon

This high-quality protein source provides the amino acid building blocks to support hair growth and repair. It also contains high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids which promote scalp health, the very foundation of healthy hair growth.

Dark Green Vegetables

Broccoli and Swiss chard, nutrient powerhouses that they are, benefit all cells of the body, but especially the hair. The levels of Vitamins A and C found in these leafy greens stimulate the production of healthy levels of sebum, the body’s natural conditioners and moisturizers for both the skin and hair.

Beans

Beans are understandably superb for hair because of their protein content. However, many other trace minerals such as biotin, zinc and iron are also beneficial to your locks. Make sure to have at least 3 serving of beans per week.

Poultry

Chicken and their two-legged friends may not have hair but contain nutrients which help you grow healthy hair. The excellent-quality protein it contains helps you to have a luxurious mane and the iron and zinc they give are highly bioavailable or absorbable. Zinc promotes scalp health while iron promotes optimal hair growth.

Nuts

These edible tidbits we call nuts are quick sources of proteins as well as important nutrients for hair health. Nuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3 fatty acid which naturally conditions the hair. They also have sufficient amounts of zinc which reduce hair shedding.

Eggs

Eggs are still another great source of proteins which promote hair health and growth. They are also excellent sources of two important beauty nutrients—biotin and Vitamin B 12. Whether fried, scrambled, boiled, poached or deviled, eggs are easy-to-cook and cheap sources of hair-beautifying nutrients.

Whole Grains

Whole grains have a bit of almost everything—carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals. These crunchy-chewy foods make hair thick, shiny and healthy. To load up on whole grains, cut back on processed food and go natural as much as possible.

Low-fat Dairy Products

Dairy products contain high levels of one nutrient essential for hair growth—calcium. They also provide a pair of important proteins—whey and casein—which works with calcium to give you a luxurious growth of hair. Make your dairy sources low-fat to skip the unhealthy fats.

Carrots

Carrots are very rich in Vitamin A, that all-around beauty vitamin. Vitamin A is a potent antioxidant which promotes healthy cells, including hair cells.
