FAQ For Coupon Newbies

What are coupons?

In essence, coupons are ways of obtaining discounts off your shopping.  The coupons of old come in the form of literal coupons which are usually in the corner of ads in magazines.  They are usually marked by perforated lines and are meant to be cut out and presented to your local store in exchange for discounts.

With the advent of the internet age, coupons can now be obtained online.  An online retailer advertises his site by offering either printable coupons which you can redeem at your favorite store or coupon codes which you can redeem while doing online shopping.  These have become the fad these days.

How do I use coupons?

Coupons are usually of two types.  The first is the literal paper coupon which you can physically bring to the store and hand out to the cashier upon checkout.

The second type is an online coupon code.  This is again classified into two types.  The first is a link (highlighted, clickable set of words) which when you click on will lead you to hidden pages in the online retailer’s website.  The second type is a coupon code which can be keyed in or entered in upon checkout.

If your online or digital coupon is a link, click on it and follow the instructions detailed in the hidden pages of the site.

If it is a special code, you will have to supply this code during checkout time.  Find the “gift certificate” or “coupon” space, enter your appropriate information and a new screen will show you the adjusted amount.

Where can I find coupons?

Paper coupons can be found in abundance in magazines.  You can cut and collect them or let your kids have fun collecting them for you.

Online coupon sites can be had here at newfoodcenter.com of course.  You can ask and shop around the numerous stores for the best coupon deals (which, I guess you don’t have the luxury of time for) or you can just sit back and search our site.   We keep abreast of the hottest deals around and keep you updated so you can promptly avail of the best bargains in town.

What are the general rules?

You can usually avail of discounts only with a minimum purchase, say a $5 cut off a $50 purchase.
Most coupons have an expiration date so that you should plan ahead for a purchase.

There is also a general rule to limit only coupon use per household, a certain number of coupons per product per day and similar restrictions.  Be sure to know the rules.

The best way to learn couponing is to go ahead and use coupons regularly.  In time, you’ll be an expert at it.  Happy couponing!
